• Economic context – the increase in the number of home and teleworkers is directly linked to the development of a service economy in Western Europe, especially in the UK where the vast majority work in the tertiary sector.

• Environmental issues – both pollution issues and work environmental issues are important factors contributing to the growth in the number of flexible workers. Reduced air pollution and energy consumption are two obvious benefits of home and teleworking.
