Consolidation in the IT services sector is back in the spotlight as rumour swells that a deal is being discussed between Atos Origin and T-Systems, the IT services division of Deutsche Telekom.

Mergers and acquisitions have been the meat and drink of the IT industry since the dotcom bust in 2000 and 2001, but only a handful have been on the scale of any consolidation between Atos and T-Systems – and their outcomes have been diverse.
