Consultants could profit by helping clients integrate their systems and security management efforts, according to NetIQ’s Chris Pick.

A year ago, many consultants were fielding calls from clients struggling to deal with last summer’s most unwelcome visitor to the commercial world – the Sasser worm. There was widespread chaos and confusion as systems administrators and security experts struggled to protect vital corporate computing networks from a major assault on Windows-based applications.

But while those responsible for systems management were concerned about the sudden and significant degradation in CPU performance which their monitoring tools highlighted, security management teams were inundated with anti-virus alerts from their specialist systems – yet remained unaware of what the impact might be on the company’s operations.
