A matter of life and death?

The NHS’s massive Connecting for Health IT modernisation programme is far from complete, but with Accenture’s surprise pull-out, it has already generated more controversy and comment than most UK technology projects.

The public performance started back in late 2003, when the NHS awarded £6.2 billion worth of contracts to consultancies and IT services providers that would transform the health service’s information systems, under the auspices of the then ‘National Programme for IT’ led by ex-Deloitte consultant Richard Granger.
